Part of Allison's family is from the tiny town of Jerome, Virginia
which is along the western edge of the Shenandoah Valley in Shenandoah County.
There is not much there but the buildings that are
are evocative of the rural Virginia building style from a time that has passed.
White is the dominate color,
probably harking back to the days of lime based white washes.
"The last gasp,
it's a gas and a half."
The clean lines and the white siding is common throughout the area,
whether on stores or homes.
Directly across the road is the stone wall
that surrounds the church and cemetary.
These steps must be from a time when people actually walked to church.
The wall and steps may not be the style that I would choose
but I love the vernacular style...
...that echoes the pride of the people who own, built,
and would see this wall every day.
Behind the wall, past the resting place of the ancestors,
on a open hill where all can see,
is the church.
